User Ratings and Reviews
3 Stars Value for money but Not Great
This product is cheap. It however has it’s drawbacks. Just did a 1200 mile trip with this GPS. This is what I found.
Pros.
1. Generally works OK on major highways.
2. Fast Route Recalculation.
3. You can listen to MP3s while driving and see the map at the same time.
Cons.
1. Weird route calculation algorithm. Asks you to take route that makes no sense. I would always check the route first in Google maps and start driving and then the unit will eventually recalculate the correct route. I used Magellan 1200 simultaneously with this one and Magellan was very user friendly and showed right directions.
2.The documentation is poor and there is no quick start guide included.
3.Maps are old and new maps are not available yet.
4.Extremely limited number of POIs.
2 Stars Not the best GPS by a long shot
The select features on this GPS are frustrating. You often have to redo your selections because the GPS likes to make suggestions that don’t help. It also won’t let you look ahead in your directions and doesn’t say street names.
3 Stars Disappointing
I was disappointed with this GPS system. I have a Garmin for myself and bought this one as a gift. Definitely not worth the money I paid for it. I’ll return it and purchase a Garmin. Normally I don’t go by brands, but in this, I would stick with the big names.
1 Stars Poor quality, horrible customer service
I got this GPS from staples.com. I rarely use it, but only used a few times, then this device refuses to read the content of the SD card, and thus I could not use this GPS. I called InVion customer service, and they asked me to ship the SD card to them for repair. I did as instructed. When they shipped it back, they somehow messed up with my address and shipped it to the wrong address, so I did not get it. I called again, and they shipped a replacement card out, but again to the same wrong address, so still I wasn’t able to get it. I had to call many times about their 2nd mistake, after they verified with UPS that they indeed shipped it to the wrong address twice, they promised to ship it to me the 3rd time. They didn’t email me the tracking number after they shipped it out, but because they shipped it twice to the same wrong address, I don’t quite trust them, so I called them and asked for the tracking number. Then I called UPS and learned that they shipped this item to the same wrong address for the THIRD time! Dear readers, up to this point, can you imagine this whole thing? To ship an SD card to the SAME WRONG address THREE times!!! Fortunately, because of my reminder, they were able to intercept this package with UPS and corrected the address.
It took me more than 2 months from the day I sent my SD card to them to the day I eventually got it back from them because of their repetitive mistakes. And they never even said sorry to me for dozens of phone calls I made.
Conclusion: If you don’t want to get into trouble for the poor quality GPS and their nightmare customer service, don’t buy this GPS.
2 Stars Clunky
I walked into a Staples store when they advertised the TomTom One for $199 and of course “the customer who left 10 min before walked out with the last one” (yeah sure, and about that bridge; I’ll bet it’s for sale too) but the clerk said I can order that on our web system for you. Okay fine, I want it and I’m in no rush. Then the GPS-4v106 shows up. I have a bit of experience with the NexTar X3-02 (nice at $199) I bought it the same day that Staples didn’t have the TomTom (under the I don’t know what this is but I can take it back guarantee…) There is nothing really wrong with the X3-02 (it works great and looks and feels good too) except it has no facility to be updated and the small POI list is very old. But as the basis for comparison for this 4V106 “the X3-02 rocks” The 4V106 does not work without the SD chip inserted, it took several minutes to figure out where we were initially and though it comes with lots of stuff (AC & DC chargers, touch pens, various mounts, etc) it simply looks and feels cheap.
