User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Very Nice
I have owned several top of line GPS units, ranging from the Tom Tom to the Garmin (both were stolen over the years) and what I discovered is the NavStar surpasses them both. I find it to be much more accurate and turn notification is right on the money allowing just the right amount of distance before you perform a turn maneuver.
This gps exceeds my standards in every area. I have had no problems with the unit. For experienced GPS users you will find the menu system very intuitive and will probably be able to set it up in the vehicle and start working with it almost immediately. As far as routing goes, this GPS has been flawless with its directions. I was also pleasantly surprised at the speed that it picked up the satellite signals. I have read complaints about other GPS products taking a long time to get a signal…but I have not experienced any delays in my experience. Fast reroutes, clear and understandable voice from unit, I would say get a dash mat for it, They make it a little easier to mount and/or move your unit from car to car, or just use the standard mount kit in the box.
Overall, the menus are very intuitive and easy to use and for the price, really can’t be beat. Comparable Garmins seem about twice as much. The unit starts up fast and is quick to determine routes and re-routes. The only negative thing I’ve noticed is it does take longer to start up after parking the vehicle in a garage as opposed to on the street, either way, 20 to 35 seconds vs. 10 to 15. The traffic channel is surprisingly accurate and updates constantly. Its not available in all Metro areas, I noticed.
The accuracy of the maps and POI’s seems to be very good, which from what others say is about average for units of this price. The menus take a little practice to learn where everything is located, but overall this does what it should…gets me from where I am to where I need to be. Nice bright screen, decent battery life (around 4 - 6 hours) depending on the mode of use. Also, there is not much on market that guides, routes, re-routes, finds satellites, stays locked onto signals or displays directions better than NavStar. They all use the same Satellites to receive the GPS signal. An excellent deal for my money.
